This week students wrote their first rhetorical analysis essay on MLK's "Letter"
and we practiced peer review. We also introduced literary theory and used the feminist approach to discuss how theory allows readers to find deeper meaning in texts.

The focus of this weeks work revolved around MLK's "Letter From a Birmingham Jail"
Students practiced identifying rhetorical strategies, and analyzing a text for structure, tone, and other rhetorical moves. We also learned how to write the rhetorical analysis essay using the arch method to plan, and using the rhetorical precis and C.E.I. for the into and body paragraphs. This week we began Romanticism and looked at the Transcendentalist Works, "Self-Reliance, "Civil-Disobedience," and "Walden."
We continued to learn to read rhetorically and focused on ways to read older, more complex texts by focusing on the elements of those texts. |
