This week we will complete our first CTLS Touchstone and Unit 2 in the AP Classroom.
We will write our first Argument essay after exploring the AP Rubric. We will continue to focus on writing claims and using reasons and evidence to follow a line of reasoning. We will also discuss how to effectively introduce an extended argument and connect different reasons and evidence through the use of transitions. We will begin looking at Brave New World Wednesday and we will examine materials that deal with Huxley's claims about modern society. Our focus will be on the ways that writers effectively establish claims and follow lines of reasoning. We will also look at rhetorical strategies that authors use to reinforce claims. This week we worked on introducing arguments using debates. Our goals were to begin writing claims that we could support with a line of reasoning.
We divided into 6 teams and each pair of teams was given a topic to research and debate. We learned how to make a claim, support the claim with reason and evidence, and anticipate and answer counterarguments. We held our debates on Thursday and Friday. |
